Painful Pap Exams? Here's What You Can do about it!

Here's how to go about pap exams… if you have discomfort with penetration... with tampons... with intersour$e... you get the idea. Let's go!

1) Have a conversation with your Doc! Did you know it took me five or so years to muster the courage to tell my Family Doc that I have pain with saxx... I know… 5 YEARS! I just kept my mouth shut and got on with it.... but in reality so much can be done from the doc's side when it comes to an easier pap experience... like
2) changing the size of the speculum to something smaller... or offering a different way to do a pap smear
3) slowing down and warming up the speculum before insertion. Also, he or she could add more lubricant if necessary!
4) Now... what can YOU DO.... You could slow down your breathing. Count in 1- 2 and out 1-2-3-4
5) Visualize the opening and lengthening of these hidden ms! Blossoming of the vulva, let go of the never-ending tampon, Let go of the fart/poop/pee.... Flimsy hammock...and so on! Pick your fave cue!
6) Unclench your BUTT AND JAW... they are more connected to the pelvic floor than your velcro baby to your chest.
7) Prep for the Pap with dilators! Seek help from a pelvic health physiotherapist! Come see me in Toronto if you’d like. (See below for details)
8) Prep for the Pap with myofascial and visceralfacial work! This is done with a pelvic health PT
9) Release the PFM and Hips ahead of time! Unsure how? Take a look at our Video Library for better Bowel Movements! www.pelvicpro.ca
